As I sat down to hash out some possible topics for posts about things Portlanders love and things they hate, a trend emerged. More often than not, the things that some Portlanders really love, other Portlanders hate with a passion, and visa versa.
I will dive further into these topics in future posts, but just for an example take into account the following topics… Vegans: While some Portlanders think that being Vegan is the coolest thing in the world, others think it is a complete joke (or at least they believe the people, who think being Vegan is the coolest thing in the world, are a joke (see blog comments on any of the 600 blogs that are featuring the Sweatpea Bakery hiring scandal). Bikes: Some Portlanders think biking and biker safety is the most important issue in our city, while others (visit the comment section on any bike accident story on the Portland Tribune’s Web site) think bikers are idiots who take up the road, which was clearly made for cars, and deserve to be hit.
Like I said, I’ll dive more into those topics in future posts; but you get the idea.
Whether it’s love or hate, it’s fair to say Portlanders will have a strong opinion about any topic I cover. What can I say, Portlanders are a fiery bunch.
